This is very much a personal decision. That’s where the knowledge and expertise of our plumbers come in handy. We install oil-fired, gas-fired, and electric-powered water heaters, so, whichever energy source you choose, we have a high-efficiency water heater that will meet your needs while helping to keep your energy costs under control.
This is the most common kind of water heater you see in homes. That’s because tank storage water heaters are the most affordable up front for both purchase cost and installation, thanks to their simple design. Tank storage water heaters range in size from 30 to 100 gallons and provide reliable water heating.
A tankless water heater is also known as an “on-demand” water heater, because it only heats water when it’s needed. One big difference is that on-demand hot water is endless, because there’s no waiting for a whole storage tank of new water to heat up. Not only are there no more waits between showers, but you can take as long of a shower as you want, even if the dishwasher is running! While the up-front costs are higher, tankless water heaters can cut your water heating energy costs by 30%, and they last at least twice as long as storage tank water heaters.
Several of the high-tech heating systems The Fuel Company installs incorporate a water heating component. These systems include a storage tank. However, they rely on your home’s boiler to heat the water in the tank. A heat exchanger in the storage tank will keep the water hot for whenever you need it.
Hybrid water heaters are actually heat pump water heaters. They operate by using electricity to pull heat from the air around them and then transfer it (at a higher temperature) to heat the water in your storage tank. A hybrid water heater can slash your water heating energy costs by up to 60%!
Your water heater may be letting you know that it needs to be replaced well before it fails. Don’t wait for the hassle and expense of a water heater failure before acting. If you see any of these problems, get in touch with The Fuel Company so that we can help you with replacing your unit.
Rusty water. While this may be a sign that there’s sediment building up in your tank, it may also mean that your water heater is corroding from the inside out. Get in touch with us so that we can get started on a replacement.
Odd noises. Do you hear banging or rumbling when your water heater is running? That is a likely indicator that sediment has accumulated and hardened at the bottom of your water heater tank. This often cannot be repaired, so you’ll need a new water heater soon.
Age. The average water heater has a life expectancy of between 10 and 12 years. If your water heater is approaching or has exceeded that age, now is the time to begin planning to replace it. If you’re not sure how old your water heater is, take a look at the serial number on the manufacturer’s sticker on the water heater. The first letter indicates its month of production, and the first two numbers indicate the year. So, if your water heater’s serial number starts with H10, the “H,” the eighth number in the alphabet, corresponds with August, the eighth month. The “10” stands for the year. Your water heater was manufactured in August of 2010.
